Warning regarding the new version of blogger!

I decided to try a new templet to give my page a fresh look. In the old blogger, the look changed, but the templet was still in basic html coding. This time, to my horror, all of my links, my counter, any extras had disappeared. I'd spent over two years adding my links. When I used the new blogger tool to add links, I discovered that they had to be done ONE AT A TIME. Impossible. The old html templet was gone, too, replaced with a code that didn't resemble any html I'd seen. I still had a copy of my old templet, but no matter where I tried, blogger refused the code. Finally, in the help section I spotted their note about the 'revert' button.

It worked. Whew! My blog may be less colorful, but everything's back.

Heed my experience.

Scary for you!! I think what I did was copy my entire links list code into notepad, save then when I changed template I pasted it back into the new template. Something like that.

That's what I tried to do, but have you tried changing templates since the new blogger? In the past, the underlying templet code stayed the same and you could paste back in. When I changed templets with the new blogger it also changed the templet code. That was the problem. My old templet code is back, but if you look at the link the the right for 'My Family Blog' which I did update the template, and go view source, you'll see gibberish (to me)

I started to do that last night, but decided I liked what I had better than any of the others they had. Glad I didn't now.

Yes, be glad. I tried opening a new test blog to see how it worked. I could work with one from scratch, but I relied on having that html code backing. It allowed me to put my webtracker in and a couple of other things that you can't code into this new background. They've made it easier in many ways, but they've also taken control of what you can and cannot do.

Sorry, Pris, that I got you into this New Blogger thing. Some of my Haitian students practice voodoo. Should I call on them to help you out of your quandaries? For you, New Blogger is definitely possessed!

Hi Brian
Send on the voodoo:-)

No, you didn't get me into it. Blogger forced me into the upgrade by covering my dashboard with the upgrade message every time I signed on so I had to do it to get rid of the message. I wish there were a way to change the look of a blog, still, but with the new coding now, there's not. You can't just copy your links list in html format and add them to the new blog. So...:-)

I am sticking to mine for the time being. I have switched but I do not like the new templates at all.

I know the time will eventually come when they force us to go to the new template, too. If I can't edit via html, it means none of the extras I have on my blog like a webtracker, the little map down bottom and other things that take html coding in the template. Maybe they think everybody likes 'paint by the numbers' experiences online, but I learned html so I could use it. Front Page won't allow you to do unusual things in the html, either, and it's the program I use for my website. I save my pages to my hard drive, open the html (view source)with notepad and edit there to my heart's content, then FTP it up to my site.
