Trying to lose weight

It's hard when you can't exercise like before ME/CFS, but I've whittled off 10 pounds and want to get around 15 more off. Cross your fingers for me. I couldn't get far enough back from the cam to hit the mouse for the photo, but that chub belly is what I need to lose. And to think, I used to try to gain weight because I was too skinny for most of my early years. Sigh....

10 pounds is wonderful!

Congratulations! That is quite an accomplishment. I've been trying to lose weight this new year, and I've only managed three so far. Slow and steady, right? Good luck with the remaining 15!

Thanks, both of you. Yes, slow is the way I'm doing it. Small portions. Lean protein and green vegetables plus my oatbran muffin (homemade and frozen) and an occasional half banana as my complex carbs.

I learned through my hound dog, Rusty, that it's about what you eat, not about exercise. I decided that Rusty was overweight. This was at a time my husband was out of town for a few weeks so poor Rusty got no exercise. I cut back on his dog food, adding (due to a friend's suggestion) broccoli (frozen and heated) in place of his "real" food. He lost about five pounds easily!

So, you can do it, Pris, even if you can't exercise! (Of course, it's not so easy when we have possession of the food ourselves...unlike poor Rusty!)

I'm not sure if I could go on a diet while dealing with other health issues. Then again, I'm not sure I'll be able to go on a diet at all when it becomes necessary. :) You have amazing mental stamina.

That's great. It sounds such a healthy regime too. You give me inspiration to get back on the healthy wagon.

Yes, it can be done with staying with healthy foods and cutting portions. I finally slid under my 10 pounds off today, so slowly but surely.. Rusty will be my inspiration:-)

Somebody posted and their profile link went back to an NFL draft page so I deleted. If that was a legit comment, my apologies. My concern was that it might be spam and other readers would click on it.

P.S. has anyone heard from Terri (CFS Warrior) about her test results?

I usually can't get
pounds off until I get above
a certain amount of exercise,
then it's like a switch goes on.

Good for you Pris! I have gained so much weight ~ even on my gluten sugar and dairy free diet....carbs I think. Gives me incentive as my intentions for this year is to lose not gain.....

Hi Jim,
When I could bike every day I could eat larger portions, but if I went into extra food, fatty things, empty carbs, sugar, etc I STILL gained. Wish I could exercise now. I'd have the weight off three times as fast on this diet.

Renee,
It's so hard to know what our bodies need to lose...so many advice books out there. For me using the gylcemic index as my guide has been what works for me, but I've had friends with ME/CFS lose other ways, too, so....I also need a goal, such as 'by the time I'm due for my next doc visit, I want the scales to be less...by the time I go for my second Miami research subject visit this summer, I want even more pounds off etc.' biggie for me is getting my overall cholesterol down even though my ratio is good.
