Tagged by Sam Rasnake

Okay, I was tagged by Sam Rasnake in his second meme (go to his blog to read his):

It goes as follows:

As an adult, the following selections have influenced or impacted me the most...

[These works may or may not be your favorites, and you may have first encountered them when you were much younger.]

the book:
Man and His Symbols by Jung, published by Dell

the film / network series:
Platoon, 1986, Directed by Oliver Stone

the music / spoken word recording:
Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor (the first movement will send chills! Absolutely wondrous) You can hear a poor quality version of all of the movements HERE at Wikipedia (scroll to page bottom), but I would recommend listening to a good version of it if you can find one.

What are your choices?

I'm tagging Scot Young
and Russell Ragsdale..and anyone else who'd like to reply!

Hi Jim
I was a HUGE Bergman fan in my late twenties and thirties. I haven't seen The Seventh Seal since then. I need to rent it again and see how I react now.

Hi Scot
I'm glad you found this. I was going to leave you a tagged note, but didn't get to it yesterday.

I remember seeing Love Story in a theatre in Rhode Island. I remember it so clearly because there was so much weeping going on. I was trying not to cry because I knew if I did I would start bawling, literally. I don't know how I would react to that movie in the here and now, either, but in my twenties, romance was still so alive and the thought of losing it early a concept I wasn't as familiar with as I am now.

Love Blowin' In The Wind, too.

Hi Pris, I should answer this question really.

My book is still Wild Swans by Jung Chang. It made me think of how easy we have it here.

Film? I don't know but the most vividly remembered one is Harold and Maude. A beautiful love story between a young bored rich man obsessed with death and a beautiful old woman, who lives in a train carriage who is full of life. She teaches him to love life. It has a very sad ending though.

Music: my brother (now long dead) taught me to love opera and operetta from a very young age. It is still an ambition to see an opera one day.

On another matter, David and I are not in favour to publish the MD scripts but we are very happy to send them to you, if that's okay with you.

lol

These are giving me new things to read/listen to..thanks, Monique and Russell. Monique, I saw Harold and Maude when I lived in Boston. That movie played exclusively in one small theatre for years to a packed house. I thought it was an excellent film! As for opera, a friend of my cousin's was involved with opera production over in Palm Beach, so she got us free tickets and permission to come backstage. We watched part from the audience and part from behind. It was fascinating. Here in the states, more and more, the translation is presented above the stage so that you don't have to guess by gesture or facial expressions and general storyline. (and yes, mailing the script would be wonderful. I told David , too).

Russell...I have to look up Savage Beauty. The title intrigues. I never was able to get into Matrix, though I know a lot of people loved that movie.

Interesting what's affected us.
