Pris at Thirteen

(posted on MySpace earlier today...if you read my blog there, you've seen it)

I stumbled across a diary I kept when I was 13 and re-reading it had me rolling on the floor in parts. Crushes. Friendships. Family. The diary all brings it back. Poignant in some ways, too. Life was so innocent then and family was still alive and something I never even thought about losing. The immortality of youth...

The above is me at age 13...no, my hair isn't all gone. It's in a pony tail. Three diary pages below. Do you have an old diary? Share if you did. Maybe I'll dig out the ones from age 15 at some point. Those are great, too ;-)

(Click to enlarge and remember, Windows resizes. Run your curser over the bottom righthand corner till an orange square appears. Click on it and the pages will be readable easily)

It's awesome that you have kept these. What a great find! We gave out boys journals one Christmas. They didn't know how to start, so I suggested they go through some magazines and cut out pictures of things they liked, cars, food, sports, etc., and write something about those. I looked through them a few years ago, and besides pictures of football helmuts of Vikings and Raiders and Pizzas, one of them had cut out a picture of a misshapen, swaybacked woodcarving of an African tribesman with strange tribal markings down the head and chest, and a long long ringed neck. Under the picture he had written: This is what people look like today.

(I guess he was really putting one over on his great-grandchildren!) I can only imagine what a joke he thought he was playing....)

Hi Michael...yes, I could be a character. A handful sometimes, too, though I was pretty obedient (except when I secretly disobeyed lol).

pepe..that's neat that your son kept his. It brings back a slice of who you used to be and that's fun.

Never have, never will write a diary. Something about evidence. Pris, I too loved the "ugh's"!! Cool post!!

What personality Pris! Even though I have had a journal or diary since I was 11, they weren't nearly that descriptive until late high school... these days it is sort of a catch all for all the stuff that I don't want to lose, and all the things that go on in my head. I would go craz if I lost them my whole life is in there. On an interesting note, all my journals are willed to my daughter.

What a neat idea. I don't have anybody I could will these to since they wouldn't mean anything to anybody still alive. No children. No sibs, so no nieces/nephews. My husband's sister has no kids , either. My first cousins are so much older than me and three are dead, so....I'll just have to share with the internet:-)

Pris, what a great post! I loved the journal entries (and the "ugh"), especially the part about deciding to run away. I think I ran away, too, for the afternoon, when I sat in the almond orchard with my dog for a few hours.

I only kept a journal briefly (six months, maybe) in college. Not sure where it is.

Hi Lee
I don't have any complete diaries and wish now I'd at least filled in the ones I have. I have another partial at age 14 and age 15. They bring back things I had forgotten and some things I still can't remember clearly, so in a way they're re-introducing me to myself again.

i LOVED this, pris! i suppose you thought twice about running away though? *G*

i have all my old diaries, even the first one which i started when i was about 9 or so ... but i haven't got them in vienna, and you would not be able to read them anyway, since back then they were written in german, of course. it is fun to go on those trips to one's past, isn't it?

i remember when i was 15 or so, i had a crush on this guy, robert, and i wrote down every single glance in my direction, every smile he gave me, etc. page after page. jeez. *L*

It's too bad you can't get to those now. I have one from 15 that's part full and it does the same thing. Roy and K. Fewel both wanted to sit beside me. I saw Roy today yum yum...that kind of stuff lol
