Eulogies and Other Things Forgotten

(this is one I wrote last year..tucked it away and just pulled it out for a revise today)

Coyly tucked beneath a virginal
sheet: electroshock mindfuck on wheels.
Convenient.
Rolled right to you.
Pizza delivery techno
in the mental death ward.

Other candles zapped, one by one,
it's Sarah's go round at the party.

Forgotten memories cram the room,
burst through a distant window.
Visions vaporize of an ashen man
sprawled on his suicide bed,
leftover pills, stardust, around him,
that note bequeathing Sarah
his Marilyn books still curled
in the crotch of his battered Royal.

Isn't that the way with memories? They burst upon us in unsuspecting moments, and immediately transport us back in time. I liked your poem Pris.Sadness, shock, anger and hurt were all conveyed, as well as love.
You say you became a poet, but wanted to be a novelist. Did you ever write a novel?

Hi Rachel
Thanks. I started a novel in the 9th grade:-)....then a big gap of time. Started writing in the eighties. Finished three but was learning with each one. They weren't good enough to market. Then came CFIDS. I couldn't even read for almost 12 years..dizzy, blurred vision, short term memory loss, etc.

Two and a half years ago, a good friend suggested co-authoring and trying it again. I was doubtful I could do it but we went at it. We decided to go with a genre to make the books easier to market . I can usually only write a page a day and we send back and forth and 'nit' what the other has added until you could never tell two peop;e are writing, so yes, we've finished three books and are looking for an agent. We have one now who's interested enough to want to see more. I'm having fun just doing it, but to sell, as well, would be a boon!

Hi Pat
Don't hide yet. You have to be on the 'mental death(healh)' ward:-) They actually do roll these from ward to ward in some places and the treatment is unfortunately making a big comeback, still claiming no permanent memory loss, a lie. That was my profession..psychologist..and I saw too many people who did have that loss.

and thanks.

I'm delighted to know that you've written books, and will join the queue to read them when you have them published!

I hope they get out there, too. I'll look for you in the queue if they do:-)
