Sprained ankle

I jammed my ankle between two hard things on Wed. Can't walk on it and need to keep in elevated until the orange on one side goes down. No way to elevate at this computer, so I'm again slow to respond and brief. I went to doc, but since I could still walk on it at that point...it had just happened, they didn't x-ray it, but that may yet need to be done since they said it should be 'deflated' in 2-3 days. Not happening. I won't be reading blogs until I can stay on longer but thank all of you who visit in the meantime.

This is the last thing you want Pris, how awful is that!

I was diagnosed with Phlebitis a few weeks ago, very painful but better now. To age gracefully eh? With all the pains with it. Get better soon. XX

Sorry to hear about this Pris, Hope it heals quickly so you can get back to blogging and entertaining us.

M, I know that's a painful problem! Do any meds help reduce that blood constriction??

Collin, I hope it heals fast, too. I miss being able to beat up my husband. I can't catch him this way:-)

Ow! Sad to hear.
Keep it on a pile of
cushions and walk it
around a little now and then.
I think elevation helps a bit.

Ibuproven Pris, to reduce the inflammation and wearing support knee socks to increase the blood flow. A devil to put on. The inflammation has gone but my leg is badly bruised and standing for a while can be very painful. It's a good thing I do a lot of walking during working hours.

You okay?

Ouch! I've sprained several things over the years, not fun.

In my experience, and from what medical people have told me, sprains take time to heal. In each case when I've done it, it's taken something like 6 weeks for the injury to be fully healed, and there can still be a little soreness for a little while after that.

I've found that alternating ice and heat helps, ice to bring swelling down, heat when it gets stiff. The prediction of 2-3 days for the swelling to be gone might have been overly optimistic, but gradually it should improve.

I do hope it feels better soon. Be well, Pris.

Hi Jim, thanks!

Monique, I hope that over time yours is a condition that will improve? It sounds painful!

Lyle, loooong time no see. Thanks for stopping by. I'm going today to get the X-ray to rule out a hairline fracture simply because the ankle on one side continues to swell despite elevation, etc, and if it's just a bad sprain, then I wait it out. Thanks for the heat/cool tip. While it's this puffed I can't tolorate heat, but I can see that as it heals and some of this goes down, alternating would help.

Again, I'm sorry I'm getting to few blogs right now. I will!

I'm told that it will flare up from time to time. It's a lot better now.

Ouch! I did something similar some years ago. It was quite painful. I hope it heals quickly!

M, I'm glad you're better. Crossing my fingers for few flares.

Hi Kerri. I went for my X-ray but they have to have the radiologist read it to know. The man doing it gave me a hint that a break didn't 'jump out at him', so I suspect a bad sprain is what it is...ad you're right about the pain. I broke two small bones in my foot in a car accident when I was 15 years old. Once they casted it the pain went away almost immediately. Not so with a sprain.
