Well, I won't be doing any surfing, but...

..doesn't this bring back a different time?? How many of you were born when this was popular? Any memories connected to the song?

There were a few comebacks. I
remember the Beach Boys from when my
bro and his friends hung out
(1979!) at Old Orchard Beach.
Actually, I'm not sure the Beach
Boys ever stops playing at OOB or
Higgins Beach. :-)
I think of the auburn twins,
"Heckle and Jeckle", who went out
w/bro and best friend.

I just HAVE to show David this. I have no memory of it and I'm curious to know if he has.

Pris, regarding the scripts. I have been told not to show anybody but the cast and I'm going to heed that advice. I hope that you don't mind too much.

lol

Hi Jim
I don't have a specific memory with them...just that suddenly they were there and always made me think of the ocean.

Monique, Let me know if David knows them. Both of you would be old enough so I'm curious if maybe they were purely a phenomenon here. They did a lot of California surfing songs.

That's okay about the scripts. I can barely read anything right now, anyway. I'll just have to miss all of the raunchy parts:-)

Me! I was! Now my youngest son (who is considerably younger than I) LOVES the Beach Boys! In fact, he did his own mix of SMILE, and sent it to Brian's wife, who gave it to him....he just couldn't wait until the new SMILE came out. Now he loves Lucky Old Sun just as much. I will show this to him!

PS I myself love SMILE. I think Brian was truly a genius.

Hey Pris, David has never heard this before too. When was this? Mid to late fifties? Before they hit it big in the rest of the world? Mind you both David and I were very little mid fifties. I was about 4 and David perhaps 2 or 3.

ahhh, this was beautiful Pris. I just remember their songs always took me to a warm summers day on the beach.

Isn't their music great?

Monique, I don't know when they first started recording, but I was most aware of them from about 1963 and then onward for quite some time. They were still performing in the eighties last I heard. Tell David:-)

More about the Beach Boys..just googled them:

The Beach Boys are an American rock band. Formed in 1961 the group gained popularity for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a California youth culture of cars and surfing. Brian Wilson's growing creative ambitions later transformed them into a more artistically innovative group that earned critical praise and influenced many later musicians.

The group initially comprised singer-musician-composer Brian Wilson, his brothers, Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. This core quintet, along with early member David Marks and later bandmate Bruce Johnston, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. The Beach Boys have often been called "America's Band", and Allmusic.com has stated that "the band's unerring ability... made them America's first, best rock band." The group has had thirty-six U.S. Top 40 hits (the most of any U.S. rock band) and fifty-six Hot 100 hits.
